McKnight Brain Research Foundation Hosts Fourth Inter-Institutional Meeting
On May 1-3, 2011, the trustees of the McKnight Brain Research Foundation (MBRF) hosted the fourth inter-institutional meeting between the four McKnight Brain Institutes located at the University of Alabama, the University of Arizona, University of Florida and the University of Miami. More than 100 research scientists from the institutions convened at the Evelyn F. McKnight Brain Institute at the University of Miami for the two day meeting.
Dr. Ralph Sacco, MD, the executive director of the Evelyn F. McKnight Brain Institute at the University of Miami was the local host for the meeting and Clinton B. Wright, MD, MS, scientific director of the institute welcomed colleagues to the meeting that highlighted collaboration across institutions and initiated new discussions for future research.
The Theme of this years meeting was “Reducing the risk of Age-Related Memory Loss”.
Early diagnosis and treatment health conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and obesity can delay age-related memory loss, according to the reports of several research scientists who participated in the meeting. And contributing to the theme of the meeting, Costantino Iadecola, M.D., the George C. Cotzias distinguished professor of neurology and neuroscience and chief of neurobiology at Weill Cornell Medical College, gave the keynote address on the science of vascular dementia.
The fifth inter-institutional meeting will be held April 11-13, 2012, at the Evelyn F. McKnight Brain Institute at the University of Arizona which also hosted the first inter-institutional meeting in 2008.
